Preferred name: Blossom Student or employee: Student Native Language: English Learning Language(s): Japanese How long have you been learning: Around 3 years, though the first two years were self-studying. This year, I actually began taking Japanese classes in my college, so I was able to reinforce what I already knew, and I was able to learn more. Reason for learning: I want to be able to understand the Japanese in mangas, video games, and anime without needing a translation. I also really like Japanese and think it would be great if I could learn a new language. Future goals: I want to get a job localizing and translating animes/mangas/video games. Through this forum, I hope I can also become more confident in my language and communication skills in general, since I can actually be really shy. It's hard for me to talk to people I don't know normally, let alone through another language. So I hope that I can overcome that shyness by talking with people who have similar goals. I look forward to working with you all, it's nice to meet you!

Welcome Cru! Welcome James! I'm glad to see both of you join this community!
Cru! I thought I posted a reply to you, but I guess it didn't go through! I did a little research on the Ainu and Amami. Those are pretty neat! And I totally agree with you on learning Japanese (or any language I imagine) to be a great mental exercise!
James! I love your goals with the ink! I have two tattoos right now.. itty bitty ones lol. I give you kudos for wanting a tebori style (very intricate looking) tattoo. Those look like hours worth of work. :] but they are beautiful!
二人さん、どうぞよろしくお願いします!

Welcome Luna!! It's nice to meet you too! Thank you for joining Jele! There are tons of ways to practice the language and I encourage everyone to paricipate and create new conversations! We have a few neat conversations going right now, and a bunch of games to play plus many more on the way! Videos and music are areas worth checking out and I would love to know some of your favorite singers! How about starting with a thread of good Japanese music? I'd also like to know which anime you watch. (I have a thread for anime in the Japanese English board).
I hope you enjoy your time here! Jeleへよこそう! どうぞよろしくお願いします!

Preferred name: Leopard Student or employee: Student Native Language: English Learning Language(s): Japanese, Spanish How long have you been learning: I've been learning Japanese since I learned discovered Vocaloid(around 2014). Most of the Vocaloid music I listen to is in Japanese as well, and I watch videos with English translations so I understand the lyrics. I've been learning Spanish, but not as much as Japanese. But I only know a couple words for both languages. Reason for learning: I've been learning Japanese so I don't need the translations for the songs. Future goals: Live in Japan temporarily or permanently, but I would have to first graduate from high school and make sure the building allows cats(which would take a while to find). I might bring one with me. <--This is Nepia. She's a Maine Coon cat.

Welcome Leopardさん! I agree with Blossomさん, your cat is adorable!! I like your goals and I'm sure you can find a place that allows cats (although you will have to do a bit of searching). I want to bring my cat when I move too. I'd like to bring my dog too, but I will move before I bring my babies to make sure I find a place that welcomes them. since you mention you are a beginner I suggest starting out playing our Kana game, or to check out some of our Sudoku kana games. Shiritori is a good start for vocab building but we have only been playing in kana to encourage learning those. One of the next things I'd like to make is a lesson plan/class room to help beginners take off the ground and learn some basic vocals as well as learn the kana. I also suggest checking out the main chat boards, music and videos and posting on those. Don't be shy, reply to any thread! And all are welcome to make new topics and games! どうぞよろしくお願いします!
