So there’s going to be a convention near me soon, so I’ve been thinking about cosplay a lot, since I consider myself to be a novice cosplayer.
For those of you who don’t know what it is, cosplay is when people dress up costumes and accessories that emulate a specific character, often fictional. These accessories or costumes can be bought or handmade, though you’ll find that a lot of professional cosplayers make their own things. Although cosplay didn’t necessarily originate in Japan, it’s incredibly popular there, to the point where it’s a cultural phenomenon. However, the term “Cosplay” or コスプレ did originate in Japan I believe, as a combination of “Costume” and “Role-play.”
Personally, I find cosplay to be really fun to do. Making the costumes is kind of hard, but the end product is really rewarding. Especially when you put it on and make yourself look like the character you’re cosplaying and when people compliment you on your cosplay. I also find it fun to take pictures of fellow cosplayers at various events and conventions I attend. It’s also great when cosplayers act in character of who they’re cosplaying.
Here are some good examples of cosplays:
Some Sailor Moon Cosplayers
Naruto Cosplayers
Dragon Ball Cosplayers
And my personal favorite, some Fire Emblem Fates cosplayers (please tell me more people have heard of that)
I could go on lol. So anyway. What are your thoughts on cosplay? If you could, would you ever want to give it a try? Or do you prefer to see other people’s cosplays? If you've seen pictures of good cosplays feel free to share them!
